IOWA CITY, IA. (February 16, 2024) – Caitlin Clark is no stranger to the spotlight. She has been getting buckets since she started playing the game of basketball. Last night was no different as Caitlin Clark stamped her name into the history books and broke the NCAA Women’s Basketball all-time scoring record.
Just a few minutes into the game, Caitlin saw the opportunity and seized it. She needed just 8 points to beat the record set by Kelsey Plum and she made this shot count. Pulling up from just past the logo with a quick-trigger, in trademark Caitlin Clark fashion, she drained the long distance three to capture the all-time scoring record and add to her already illustrious legacy in the sport.
In front of a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Clark brought the fans to their feet as cheers could be heard throughout the state of Iowa. And she wasn’t done for the night as she also broke the Iowa program single game scoring record with 49 points in the win.
In the historic game, Clark scored or assisted on 79 points, which is the most by any Division I women’s basketball player over the last 25 seasons.
“Never stop dreaming because you can achieve way more than you ever thought,” Clark said after the historic performance.
Clark was a young girl who loved playing basketball when this journey started. Her dominance was seen at a young age. She played AAU Basketball from 2009 through 2016 and was scoring at a high clip. Clark’s father famously said he couldn’t find a girls league for her age growing up so he had her play with the boys. Clark ended up winning an AAU State Championship with those boys and was the pivotal piece on the team.
Just this past September, the University Iowa Basketball star took home the 93rd AAU James E. Sullivan Award. The AAU Sullivan Award has been presented annually by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) since 1930 to the most outstanding athlete at the collegiate, Olympic, or similar level in the United States. Clark was determined the winner following a public vote, as well as votes from the AAU Sullivan Award Committee, AAU Board of Directors, sports media, and past winners. She is a semi-finalist for the award again this year and has a chance to be the first two-time winner of the award in its 94-year history.

Clark is an All-American, National Player of the Year winner, and one of the greatest college basketball players to ever play the game. She is also an inspiration to athletes all over the world. She continues to break records and shine a spotlight on women’s basketball.
The season is far from over for Clark and her Iowa Hawkeyes teammates. The team is 23-3 and are hopefuls yet again to make some noise in March Madness. How far will Caitlin extend the scoring record? Only time will tell.
