AAU Alumni Set to Compete in the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23

The 2023 World Athletics Championships are heading to Budapest with athletes from all over the world. AAU Alumni will be in the mix heavily
ORLANDO, Fla. (August 15, 2023) – Hungary’s new National Athletics Centre will be playing host to the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23. With more than 2,100 athletes from 202 countries, this event will bring out some of the best athletes from around the world.
Of those athletes, there are 30 AAU Alumni to keep an eye on. From August 19 – 27, former AAU Track and Field superstars, defending champions, and Olympic gold medalists will take to the track in the capital city of Budapest.
The World Athletics Championships is the crown jewel of World Athletics’ global competition. This is the third-largest sporting event in the world with athletes competing for 49 gold medals. The first World Athletics Championship was held in Helsinki in 1983. Today, the competition is a biennial event that coincides with Olympics. Like the Olympic Games, this event represents the highest level championships of senior international outdoor athletics competition for track and field globally.
With reigning champions and Olympians in the mix during each competition, here are the 30 AAU Alumni you should keep your eye on over the competition.

- Alaysha Johnson – The former NCAA Champion will be competing in the 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, and 100m dash – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2011 – 2014
- Aaliyah Brown – the 2017 World Champion will be competing in the 100m, 200m, and Shot Put – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2002 – 2012
- Aaron Mallett – the National Indoor Champion looks to dominate the 110m Hurdles – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2008 – 2013
- Sha’Carri Richardson – the NCAA Champion and AAU Junior Olympic Games Gold Medalist will race in the 100m and 200m dash – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2015 – 2017
- Aleia Hobbs – the Olympic Silver Medalist and 2022 World Champion will look to add a championship in the 100m dash – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2005 – 2013
- Tamari Davis – the young star will be competing in the 100m dash – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2010 – 2017
- Shawnti Jackson – the World U20 Champion will be competing in the 100m and 200m – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2014 – 2018
- Twanisha Terry – the 2022 World Champion will be competing in the 100m dash – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2009 – 2014
- Talitha Diggs – the 2022 World Champion will be competing in the 400m – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2016 – 2020
- Lynna Irby-Jackson – the Olympic Gold Medalist will be competing in the 400m – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2011 – 2012
- Athing Mu – the 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist will be competing in the 800m – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2011 – 2020
- Raevyn Rogers – the Olympic Bronze Medalist and Indoor World Champion will compete in the 800m – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2011 – 2014
- Cory McGee – the Pan American Junior Champion will compete in the 1500m – AA Track & Field from 2005 – 2010
- Nia Ali – the Olympic Silver Medalist will compete in the 100m Hurdles – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2000 – 2006
- Shamier Little – the Pan American Games Champion will compete in the 400m Hurdles – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2009 – 2012
- Dalilah Muhammad – the Olympic Gold Medalist will compete in the 400m Hurdles – AAU Track & Field Alumni in 2001, 2003, 2006
- Vashti Cunningham – The 2-time IAAF World Indoor Gold Medalist will be competing in High Jump – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2011 – 2016
- Hana Moll – the IAAF Gold Medalist will be competing in Pole Vault – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2020 – 2022
- Jasmine Moore – the 15-time NCAA Gold Medalist will be competing in Long Jump and Triple Jump – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2015 – 2017
- Fred Kerley – The Olympic Silver Medalist and World Champion will compete in the 100m – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2011 - 2012
- Noah Lyles – the 3-time World Champion will compete in the 100m and 200m – AAU Track & Field Alumni in 2009 - 2014
- Erriyon Knighton – the man with the 3rd fastest 200m time in history looks to improve that here – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2019 - 2020
- Bryce Deadmon – the Olympic Gold Medalist and 2022 World Champion will compete in the 400m – AAU Track & Field Alumni in 2014
- Quincy Hall – the NCAA National Champion will compete in the 400m – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2006 – 2015
- Grant Holloway – the 2-time World Outdoor Champion will compete in the 110m Hurdles – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2008 – 2015
- Daniel Roberts – the USA Outdoor Track Champions top hurdler in 2019 will compete in the 110m Hurdles – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2014 – 2015
- Marquis Dendy – the World Indoor Gold Medalist will compete in Long Jump – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2006 – 2010
- Jarrion Lawson – the World Championships Silver Medalist will compete in Long Jump – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2006 – 2012
- Daniel Haugh – the Olympian will be competing in the Hammer Throw – AAU Track & Field Alumni from 2012 – 2013
